During 2005/6 the Ickleford Parish Council put together a splendid footpath map. Nearly all of our old styles have now been replaced by kissing gates with the help of the Countryside Management Team. This not only allows freedom of movement for all ages across our many commons and public footpaths, but opens up the countryside for all to see.
A safe route for horse and rider is now nearing completion. The route, which starts at Lower Green, helps the rider to traverse the village without having to negotiate the very busy roads through the village. It allows the rider not only a safe crossing area over the Bedford Road, but the chance to enjoy the many miles of countryside via bridleways, with far reaching destinations such as Pirton, Hexton, Lilley and beyond.
During the Winter months many of the paths and bridleways become waterlogged, and in some cases very slippery underfoot. In all situations we would suggest that extra care should be taken when walking these paths and bridleways.
We would ask, that at all times walkers and riders keep to the designated routes and not wander onto private land. Please remember to close all gates where necessary and to take your litter home. Dog owners are very welcome to enjoy the many paths and byways of Ickleford, but please clear up any mess and either take it home or use the dog bins provided and situated on Lower Green, the Sports Ground or in two locations along Westmill Lane. [It is an offence to allow your dog to mess in a public place (which includes all footpaths, bridleways or byways) and now carries a heavy fine].
We the Parish Council, would like to take this opportunity of welcoming you to our corner of Hertfordshire. We feel our village and countryside, and all it has to offer, is well worth a visit, we hope you do too.
