North Herts Crime Prevention Panel Seeks New Members

The Crime Prevention Panel in North Hertfordshire is currently seeking new members to assist with the valuable work it performs in maintaining low crime rates across the area. Formed over 20 years ago, the Panel is a committed group of volunteers, who perform a vital and invaluable role across North Hertfordshire and whose time and expertise helps to assist police officers in undertaking a variety of operational activities. Examples of the operations undertaken by the members include:

Safer Neighbourhood Surgeries where volunteers seek feedback from local residents about their community safety concerns so they can be prioritised and tasked by Safer Neighbourhood Panels.

Operation Scirocco where volunteers assist with street surgeries in anti-social behaviour hotspots to get feedback and information from the public.

Operation Saturnalia where since 2003, thousands of free crime prevention surveys have been undertaken for local residents and items have been marked to assist in crime prevention.

Environmental Action Days where volunteers work in partnership with other local agencies to clean up the local environment

Fetes and Fairs where volunteers run crime prevention stands at events such as the Ashwell Show, Kimpton Horse Show and Royston Kite Festival, selling crime prevention items such as locks and purse alarms and running property marking sessions.

Responding to police tasking to specific crime trends where volunteers are tasked according to any recent and ongoing crime series and trends.

Chief Inspector Geoff Camp says: “I cannot praise highly enough the role that the North Herts Crime Prevention plays within our community. There is no doubt that the members have helped to keep crime low and to reduce the fear of crime but in order to expand this vital work we need new members to join the Panel and assist with the many and varied locally based crime prevention initiatives. Interested community members can contribute as much or as little time as they want which may range from a few hours here and there to several hours a week.”

Anyone who is interested in joining the North Herts Crime Prevention Panel should contact
Dennis Wall on 01462 677249 or by email on contact@nhcpp.org or dennis.wall@herts.pnn.police.uk.
