Following the discovery of a body in Ickleford on Friday, March 14, detectives are now confident this is the body of 42-year-old John Finney from Northaw, although formal identification has not taken place.
John was abducted on Friday, February 29. His abandoned vehicle – a Mitsubishi Pajero – was found in Park Farm Northaw Road West where it is believed he was forcibly taken from his vehicle.

Investigations by detectives from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit continue and extensive searches of both scenes have taken place along with house to house inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Bill Jephson from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit is leading the murder investigation and said: “This was a targeted attack and while investigations to trace those responsible are well underway, I would urge anyone witnesses to come forward.
“If you have any information about John’s disappearance I would ask that you contact police. I am also appealing to people living in Ickleford or anyone who has passed through the area in the last two weeks and believes they have seen anything suspicious, or if they have any information to assist with our investigation, to contact the incident room.
“This is a very traumatic time for John’s family, our thoughts are with them and we would ask that their privacy be respected at this time.
“I would also like to once again reassure the Ickleford community that this was not a random attack and that they should feel safe to continue their daily routine.”
